Outfit of the Week - From the pages of InStyle

We were flipping through the pages of InStyle's August 2010 issue recently and are hooked on their 'Summer into Fall' article mixing summer favorites with cooler-weather pieces (although with this continued heat it's hard to believe that it will ever cooler...).


With cooler thoughts in mind and inspiration from page 122, we pulled together this look:

Add a Splash of Color to Your Basics

Its Summer. The sun is bright and your wardrobe should be too. So let's add a few bright items to all those basic black/grey/navy/khaki pieces in our closet.

Sundress Week - Day 4

Sundress week continues...

If yesterday was sweet, then today is sporty. Faux wrap dress done in a light/dark green/brown print. (Max Studio, Size M/6, $19)

We picture this sundress with a pair of brown t-strap sandals and a small, brown leather crossbody bag. Add sunglasses and a camera and you'll be ready for a Saturday of sightseeing (or simply running errands) in comfort.

Sundress Week continues...

Today's dress... a light weight black chiffon option (lined) with ivory link swirl pattern and a gathered waist (Banana Republic, New w/ Tags, Size 12P, $28.00).

This dress would be great for a woman looking to create curves. The drape top will enhance the bust while the gathered waist helps create an hour glass shape. Pair with strappy metallic heels and a wrap for a night on the town. Or add a white/ivory blazer and pumps for the office.

Sundress Week

Today is the Summer Solstice. And what better way to celebrate long days and warm evenings than with a whole week of sundresses.

'Sundresses?!?' you say. Think you are not the 'sundress' type? Think they are too dressy for you? Then we kindly suggest you give this summer staple another chance. New, breathable fabrics, knee-length skirts, and an expansion of "no stockings required" has made this trend do-able for all ages.

This easy to wear floor length dress comes in very comfortable jersey versions and, thanks to an empire waist, is very forgiving of tummy imperfections. Shopper Story: Transitioning your Student Wardrobe to a Professional One

My friend LP, a graduate student, is participating in a 2-week policy program in Washington DC. She was excited about the program but concerned about 'professional-izing' her current jean/t-shirt/sweater warerobe for conservative, suit-oriented WDC. She already has a dark grey "interview" suit, but wanted at least one more suit plus some non-t-shirt tops.

The Resale Boutique started building LP's 'professional-ized' warerobe with a black Via Spiga pants suit for $49.00.

Several spring fashions this year have a nautical inspriation (e.g. tops in horizontal navy & white stripes anyone, searsucker everything).

Bridal Friday - When You Need a Gown in a Hurry

Most of us plot and plan our weddings - the location, the colors, our gown. But sometimes things just don't go according to plan or happen on a whim.

We at The Resale Boutique are in a perfect position to help out in any last minute bridal gown "situations". Our wide variety of sizes and styles allow TRB to offer lots of options to short-notice brides which just aren't available at most traditional bridal retailers.

Two stories from the last two weeks:

Story 1 - Saturday, March 6th

Its 2pm. Bride and MOH with perfectly done hair & make-up fly into the bridal section of TRB in a panic. Its Wedding Day. Ceremony starts at 4pm.

Bride purchased a dress at another store and her selected seamstress did not complete all the alterations. The hem is rough & uneven. The chiffon overlay is baggy. And there is a giant pull right across the bust. Can we help them find something else for a petite bride in a bridal size 14/16?

There's a flurry of dress trying on and staff assistance (e.g. tacking of a few pieces of lace, adding a ribbon to carry the train). By 2:45pm Bride and MOH are walking out the door with another dress - white lace bodice, tulle skirt - that fits like a dream. All for less than $300.

Story 2 - Saturday, March 13th

Bride and MOB started out looking for a simple cocktail-type dress for JOP wedding that coming Wednesday. However, all the cocktail dresses at the mall & a few other places have just not felt special enough. Do we have anything less than $250 without a train in a bridal size 12/14?

After trying on a few dresses, we're left with: Gown A - beautiful but uncomfortably tight; Gown B - acceptable but doesn't fit with the bride's style.

Our Bridal Consultant pulls one more slightly non-traditional two-piece gown - a black lace halter bodice with a taffeta pick-up skirt. No train. Excellent fit with a small adjustment needed to the length of the halter. Both Bride & MOB are surprisingly pleased with the black lace. And the price - $200.

Conclusion

Two very happy brides on super short notice.

Cardi-Gras

Cardigans are everywhere this spring - every store, magazine, and blog. And with a variety of colors, sizes & styles in stock at The Resale Boutique, now would be a great time to stop by and add a cardigan to your wardrobe.

Think SPRING !!!

There's something very serene about a clean blanket of soft white snow. But after a week of snow, snow closures, and snow shoveling, we are ready to forget about the white stuff and start thinking SPRING!!!

Tunics are everywhere this year - like this light-weight cotton option done in a navy paisley print with a mandarin collar and a 3/4 sleeve. For Spring, pair it with a long necklace, skinny jeans, and boots. And once Summer arrives, mix it with leggings and gold metallic flip-flop.

We feel warmer already.

Bridal Friday - Re-creating Ivanka Trump's Bridal Gown

A few months ago, we were awe-struck by the gorgeous Ms. Ivanka Trump and her custom Vera Wang bridal gown.

At the time we were pondering ways to re-create her Grace Kelly-inspired gown featuring elbow-length sleeves done in lace (a requirement for her Orthodox ceremony). And over the holidays, the perfect solutions arrived at The Resale Boutique:

Solution 1 - A beautiful ivory satin gown with short-sleeved scallop-edged lace overlay with sweep train. Lace overlay has beading for shimmer and can be removed if desired. (David's Bridal, size 16/18)

Solution 2 - a simple A-line gown paired with a floor-length, v-neck lace jacket would make a stunning re-creation. (Pronovias, long-sleeves, ivory/silver, size L)
